SS7/SIGTRAN Monitoring Solutions
SS7 (Signaling System 7) is used by most of the operators in the world, as a core network both for cellular and for Wireline networks. It has become increasingly popular both because of the move to IP, and as a means of easily connecting new technologies to existing SS7 networks using Signaling gateways, as well as being the backbone technology for 2G and 3G wireless networks and IMS.
SS7 is a complex network with interfaces to many other protocols. Making sure that SS7 is working correctly in the basis for working with a wide range of important communications technologies today.
Challenges
As a versatile technology, SS7 presents the following challenges:
- SS7 protocols are very complex and have many variants
- The lower level protocols of SS7 can be based on TDM or on IP (SIGTRAN)
- The protocols consist of many levels and have to be monitored from the lower levels, such as MTP2 and MTP3, up to the application levels e.g. CAMEL and ISUP.
