TD-SCDMA is the Chinese specification for third generation (3G) wireless mobile services. Developed by Siemens with the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology (CATT), TD-SCDMA is an innovative mobile radio standard for the physical layer of the 3G air interface. It has been adopted by ITU and by 3GPP as part of UMTS release 4, becoming in this way a global standard, which covers all radio deployment scenarios. TD-SCDMA, which stands for Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access, combines an advanced TDMA/TDD system with an adaptive CDMA component operating in a synchronous mode. TD-SCDMA can handle both symmetric and asymmetric traffic, making it perfectly suited for mobile Internet access and multimedia applications.
Main Features - Data rate up to 2 Mb/s
- Flexible uplink/downlink radio
- Coverage of a wide area; up to 40 KM
- High mobility, at least 120 km/h
- Optimum spectrum efficiency
- Cheaper than other 3G services
