PoS (Packet over SONET) is a standard for transmitting packets (primarily IP) over SONET/SDH links. It is defined in IETF RFC 1619: PPP over SONET/SDH. PoS provides a simple and efficient, high-speed layer for transferring packets, using existing techology on the backbone. It it basically a high speed PPP link, with optional PPP authentication capabilities. Benefits - More efficient than ATM for IP
- Connects well to LANs
- Multi-protocol encapsulation
- Error control
- Link inititalization
- Erorr Free
- Interoperability over existing infrastructure
RADCOM provides testing solutions for networks running on PoS from speeds of OC3 to OC48, including protocol analysis at all 7 layers, and analysis of problems at the physical layer. |
